The opening ceremony for *Hold My Hand* was held on the 9th at the Wanin International Visual Enterprise, Ltd. building. The film brings together Vera Yen, Charles Tu, Mei Mu, Chu Meng Hsuan, OuYang Lun, and Dr. Beauty, all attending to pray for a smooth production. *Hold My Hand* is a rare American-style horror film from Taiwan, produced by Sula Koo and Paul Cheng, and directed by rising filmmaker Wang Hao. The script is an original story by producer and screenwriter Lin Jiaxin, inspired by a rumored hand-holding game believed to strengthen relationships. What starts as an innocent game quickly spirals into a terrifying survival battle, deeply reflecting the reality of human relationships. The fear it evokes goes beyond mere jump scares, penetrating into the very core of the psyche. Director Wang Hao, who admits to being highly sensitive to his surroundings, often finds himself staring outside his window, imagining all sorts of eerie scenarios that end up scaring him. However, he believes this sensitivity helps him understand the psychology of horror audiences, aiming to create a fresh and gripping horror experience.
Vera Yen, who previously starred in *The Bridge Curse* series, plays a pure-hearted high school teacher in *Hold My Hand.* She revealed that she will focus more on the psychological depth of her character, not just reacting to frights but portraying the essence of true fear within the human heart. She hopes to push her acting skills to new heights. Charles Tu, who plays a warmhearted character with many scenes opposite Vera Yen, is a horror movie fan in real life. Just from reading the script, he could already feel the immense pressure his character endures. Having heard many ghostly tales about eerie incidents on horror movie sets, Tu confessed to feeling both excited and apprehensive. Regardless of whether anything supernatural happens, he plans to channel all these emotions into his performance.
Veteran actor Johnny Kou has never starred in a horror film before. Interestingly, despite his love for horror movies and the thrill of being scared, he had never encountered a script compelling enough to take on a role—until now. "After reading the entire script, I was hooked!" he exclaimed. "The whole story is meticulously crafted, and my role as a folklore expert is something I’ve never tried before, which makes it all the more intriguing." His enthusiasm greatly motivated the cast and crew, heightening anticipation for the film’s ability to tap into the audience’s deepest fears.
High school teacher En-Yu (played by Vera Yen) is invited by her longtime crush, Yue-Rong (played by Charles Tu), to attend a college friend’s engagement party. The gathering takes an unexpected turn when the group decides to play the forbidden supernatural game, *Hold My Hand*. What starts as a seemingly harmless after-dinner pastime soon turns deadly, as friends begin dying one after another. To their horror, they discover that once the game starts, it must be continued through a ritual of hand-holding, passing the curse onto the next person. Once someone clasps hands in the game, they cannot stop—the curse will follow them to the grave…
Since the story begins on a school campus, Vera Yen recalled a chilling incident from her college years when a fellow student returned from a freshman orientation camp looking visibly haunted, with a darkened forehead and a changed demeanor. "There are just some things you shouldn’t mess with in schools," she warned. Meanwhile, OuYang Lun shared his first experience with sleep paralysis while studying at Huagang Arts School. "I had a severe cold and was resting in bed when I suddenly felt a massive temple pressing down on me, making it impossible to move. But then I thought, 'It's just a temple, why be scared?' and fell asleep under its weight." His relaxed attitude left everyone amazed at his nerves of steel.
Chu Meng Hsuan, who starred in three horror projects last year, sought spiritual guidance from a senior with psychic abilities before filming. The senior provided tips on staying safe during the shoot, easing his concerns. In an eerie coincidence, Chu recalled having a disturbing dream of a group of sinister figures making terrifying gestures at him—right before receiving *Hold My Hand*'s script. The uncanny timing gave him chills, making him believe fate had led him to this project.
Mei Mu plays a strong-willed, wealthy heiress who relentlessly torments Vera Yen's character in the film. However, in real life, she's the complete opposite—she can’t even bring herself to watch horror films. To help her overcome her fear, Vera Yen thoughtfully recommended a list of horror movies, and the two agreed to watch the scariest one together. Music prodigy Dr. Beauty also consulted temple friends for protective rituals and humorously admitted, "I don’t like horror movies, so I don’t even like looking in the mirror!" His joke lightened the atmosphere, reflecting the strong camaraderie among the cast.
With a unique blend of psychological depth, supernatural terror, and intense suspense, *Hold My Hand* is set to take audiences on an unforgettable horror ride.
